Texans WR Tank Dell Hospitalized After Serious Knee Injury on Touchdown Catch Against Chiefs

Stroud, one of Dell’s closest friends, was visibly emotional as he watched Dell being loaded onto the cart. With tears in his eyes, Stroud remained shaken and needed consoling from teammates as he returned to the Houston sideline.

“It’s not easy to let it go, especially because he’s my best friend,” Stroud said. “It’s tough to move on and keep playing, but I tried to do the best I could. My teammates helped lift me up, and I really appreciate them talking to me while I was going through it.”

Dell’s touchdown should have tied the game, but Ka’imi Fairbairn missed the extra point. The Chiefs capitalized on the momentum shift, driving 80 yards for a touchdown to extend their lead to 24-16, effectively taking control of the game.

“You see your brother go down and get hurt like that, and it’s hard to bounce back,” head coach DeMeco Ryans said. “You see how distraught he was, and it affects everyone. It’s not just about getting back to football—we truly care about each other. At that moment, the most important thing was making sure Tank was OK.”

This marks the second consecutive year that Tank Dell has suffered what appears to be a season-ending injury. Last season, the promising rookie fractured his fibula in Week 13 against the Broncos, just as he was hitting his stride. He underwent surgery the following day.
In April, the 25-year-old wide receiver faced another setback when he was an innocent bystander during a shooting at a private event in Sanford, Florida. Dell sustained a minor gunshot wound but spent only a short time in the hospital before returning to Houston.
“He loves this game so much—there’s no doubt about that,” said Texans receiver Xavier Hutchinson. “He’s going to fight back. He’ll come back even stronger, just like he did this year. It’s only a matter of time.”
Dell was one of two Texans players carted off during Saturday’s game. Free safety Jimmie Ward left in the first half with a foot injury.
