Caufield Breaks Canadiens Record with 11th Career Overtime Goal in Victory Against the Kraken!

Cole Caufield made history with the Montreal Canadiens on Tuesday night, scoring his 11th career overtime goal to clinch a thrilling 4-3 victory over the Seattle Kraken, despite the Canadiens almost letting a 3-0 lead slip away.

Caufield, who had a standout game with two goals and an assist, is now tied for the NHL lead with nine goals this season. His game-winning shot came just 44 seconds into overtime, as he skillfully maneuvered behind the net and slid the puck past Kraken goalie Joey Daccord, catching him off guard and sealing the win.

At just 23 years old, Caufield is already making waves after a career-best season last year, where he scored 37 goals and racked up 70 points. This season, he’s already notched four multigoal games. Interestingly, he also scored twice, including the overtime winner, during Montreal’s home opener against Seattle on October 14, which ended in a 5-4 win.

Juraj Slafkovsky and Alex Newhook each found the net on power plays, while Nick Suzuki contributed with three assists for the Canadiens, who now hold an impressive 8-3 record. Goalie Jakub Dobes kept his unbeaten streak alive at 6-0, making 18 saves as the Canadiens wrapped up a four-game road trip with a solid 3-1 record.

On the other side, the Kraken, now at 5-2-3, saw Brandon Montour score twice and Shane Wright add another goal as they fought back from a three-goal deficit to push the game into overtime. Montour, who set a personal best with 18 goals last season, recently returned to the ice after taking time off to be with family following the loss of his brother, Cameron, due to ALS complications.

Newhook has been on fire lately, tallying three goals and six points in his last five games, while the Canadiens dominated the faceoff battle, winning 30 out of 49 draws and converting on both of their power-play opportunities.

Caufield’s clutch performance not only capped off a nail-biting night in Seattle but also set a new milestone in Canadiens history—one that will be hard to surpass anytime soon.
